Under carpet heating
Heating mats are sandwiched between the carpet underlay and carpet. They are available in several sizes up to 20m long, in a 500mm wide roll (covering 10 sq.m in one roll).The foil backing can be cut between cable runs, enabling the roll to be zig-zagged into any shape.
If a pad of at least half the room floor area is laid, not only will it provide direct warmth above, but the 140W per sq.m output will raise the room temperature in general .
Other forms of floor heating can also be used beneath carpet, with some of these providing sufficient thermal storage to enable an off-peak or controlled electricity tariff to be used. However these mats offer a much faster response, making them a better choice in some installations, especially where a room is not in fairly continuous use.
